Routine is key
Eating the correct amount of calories and hitting your macros is very important in helping to aid your weight loss and fitness goals but an area people often fall down is eating frequency and routine.
Your body likes routine whether this be exercise, nutrition or even sleep. Routine helps your body to relax and understand what’s coming next.
I have worked with many clients over the years and have found those clients who don’t have structure to their eating will always struggle with their weight more than those who eat regularly and at the same time each day. Those who change their eating habits to eating 3-5 times a day are always surprised that eating more often drastically improves their weight loss. In my next blog I will speak more about how under eating will affect weight loss.
The key is to eat every 3 to 4 hours in order to allow your stomach to properly digest its contents. By setting specific times for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and sitting down to eat them at the same time each day, your body knows exactly when it’s time to eat, which will help prevent overeating and improve digestive health.
Eating small amounts regularly throughout the day will also increase your metabolism meaning your body will burn more calories even at rest. By eating small amounts your body is able to process the food and not store elsewhere in the body.
Regular eating will keep you energised throughout the day rather than taking big lows of energy leading to excessive eating or eating high carbohydrate and fatty foods.
Set yourself 3-5 times each day that you are going to eat, even if you are not hungry still try to eat at these times. It won’t take long for your body to understand your habits and get into a rhythm of eating.
